SNOLAB
- Discover
- Hours: 10am - 4pm
SNOLAB hosts experiments that study the universe from deep underground by investigating the particles coming from processes and phenomena happening out in space. Located 2km underground in Vale’s Creighton mine, the rock overhead filters out cosmic rays that create background radiation on the Earth’s surface. In this unique, ultra-low radiation environment, scientists and technicians from around the world work together on large scale experiments. SNOLAB hosts nearly a dozen experiments, many that are focused on astroparticle physics specifically looking for neutrinos and dark matter particles. The facility also supports biology, geology and other types of science.
